NY Giants Special Teams: Still Stuck in Neutral

In a season filled with more ups and downs than a theme park rollercoaster, the New York Giants decided to continue turning over the roster by cutting kick and punt returner Quadree Henderson only to resign him to the practice squad after he cleared waivers.

Henderson played his college ball at Pitt and was promoted from the practice squad just two weeks ago.   One would say he made a nice impact in a short time.   Henderson had 112 yards on 5 kick attempts, his longest return was 30 yards.  It took Odell Beckham, Cody Latimer, Stacy Coley, and Jawill Davis, 6 games and 14 attempts to accumulate only 337 yards.

The funny things is…that still averages out to 56 yards per game.  It’s also hard to believe but the Giants actually rank in the top 6 in the NFL for Kick Off attempts and yards.  The NFL has strived for fewer returns by moving the ball up and the results have been positive in cutting down the injuries and concussions.  That doesn’t exactly endorse the New York Giants special teams.

The punt return stats are much more consistent with the New York Giants ways.  The Giants are dead last (No. 32) in punt return average with 4.3 yards a return and 23rd in attempts. Corey Coleman should take over the kick and punt return duties on Monday Night Football against The Niners.
