Wednesday, July 9

First off, Happy Weatherford Wednesday!

For anyone who follows Steve Weatherford on social media, you know that this weekly holiday is when the New York Giants’ punter takes to his Twitter and Instagram to share words of wisdom and sneak peeks into his fitness regimen, as well as personal pictures and stories from his life.

This morning’s post on Instagram featured a shout-out to his supporters, including us fans! (For more from Weatherford, follow him: @Weatherford5 & weatherford5. I promise, you won’t be disappointed!)

Now, for some rumors and news! According to reports from The Star-Ledger, the Giants expressed interest in Traylon Shead, the running back out of SMU. The team has already made offseason additions at this position (ie Rashad Jennings and fourth round draft pick Andre Williams), and remains hopeful that an injured David Wilson will be cleared for camp (pending results from his July 21 examination), but Shead could make for an interesting acquisition heading into camp.

Shead’s agent Louis Bing said the Giants were one of nine teams interested in his client. However, Shead is currently eligible to be picked in this year’s supplemental draft (set to take place on July 11).

Any team that uses a selection in the supplemental draft forfeits a selection in next year’s “common draft.”
