Rd 5: Eric Gray | Pos – RB | School – Oklahoma
GM Joe Schoen wasted no time on Day 3 of the 2023 NFL draft by selecting RB Eric Gray from Oklahoma with the team’s first pick on the day. Gray is a slippery runner with good elusiveness. Gray’s ability to stop and go and change direction on a dime will be a much-welcomed addition to the Giants backfield.
Gray stands 5’9 and weighs a solid 209 pounds. He also possesses great vision between the tackles and in the open field. For smaller back he is tough and does a great job holding onto the ball.
The Giants have Saquon Barkley currently under the franchise tag and they still have time to get a deal done by the mid-July deadline.
Making the Team:
The selection of Gray could be looked at as Barkley’s replacement, however; there is still many who believe the Giants will work out a deal with Barkley. Gray will complete with Gary Brightwell and few other running backs on the roster for a spot on the 53-man roster.
Gray has all the tools to win a spot, but he will more than likely need to showcase a little special teams play in pre-season to give him an edge.
