NY Giants Rush: Monday Morning Manning – Week 6

By: Marco Imperati

A mess. A complete debacle. Leading into this ultra important NFC East rivalry game, the Giants were banged up and had almost 8 starters questionable for this game. As the week progressed, fans started to feel better knowing the injuries were improving.

Eli Manning looked as crisp as ever in the first quarter, starting the game 10 for 10. That was until a DeMeco Ryans interception/forced fumble/awesome play on Larry Donnell. If you’re looking for your game changer, that was it. No other way to say it.

This game was full of penalties, mistakes, and missed opportunities. The Eagles continued to keep the Giants in the game with their own share of costly mistakes, ,however the Giants never cashed in. Although tied at 3-3 for the division lead the Giants are 1-2 in the division.

There will be one representative from the NFC East in the playoffs and last night, the Eagles got an open invite from the Giants into that dance. Not good and no time to dwell. Dallas is coming to Metlife in 5 days and they will be looking to close the door on this Giants season with a win.

Some goods: There weren’t many. I thought the starting secondary played about as well in a disaster loss as they could. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie was physical in his tackling. Jayron Hosely, starting for Prince Amukamara, is playing with confidence. Hosely, Landon Collins, and Brandon Meriweather all intercepted Sam Bradford in this game.

Almost every player on the field, with exception to some solid play in the secondary, could be in the below category. I will try to condense it and be as nice as I can. Here goes.

Some bads: Offense
Larry Donnell. Hard to peg this just on Larry because hats off to Ryans on making a great play. The Giants spiraled out of control after that play and never looked back. The Offensive Line.

Eli Manning was battered all game by the Eagles defensive line. Will Beatty is eligible to return to practice this week off PUP and it comes at the right time.
Turnovers. In addition to Donnell, the Rashad Jennings fumble was also costly. The Giants were moving down the field and this was a play that again, gave the Eagles life.

Some more Bads: Defense:
DeMontre Moore. Where do I begin? The roughing the passer penalty kept the Eagles on the field. He continues to show a lack of maturity and awareness. Stop dancing DeMontre and pay attention to what this team needs you to do.

Pass rush. Speaking of what the team needs Moore to do. I love what Steve Spagnuolo has been able to do with a struggling defense. However, the four man rush just isn’t working. Hopefully it will improve with Robert Ayers slated to return.

Up next: The Giants will play Dallas in a huge, and in my opinion, season make or break game. The Dallas Cowboys beat the Giants in the season opener because of the Giants mental mistakes.

At home, this team and fanbase is feeling the pressure to win.
