Daniel Jones continues to do everything in his power to win games for the New York Giants. The talent to execute the gameplan is not good enough. The Giants lost to the Detroit Lions this past weekend 31 – 18 and it was obvious that injuries and a conservative gameplan gave little room for error.

10,000 Foot View:

This past Sunday the Giants were out of synch.

Jones is completely handcuffed by the talent surrounding him and when you face a young, hungry team with its backs against the wall…you get punched in the mouth. Good teams, pivot and make changes.

Digits:

Jones – 27 Comp | 44 Attempts | 341 Yards | 1 TD | 2 Int’s | 7 rushes | 50 Yards | 1 TD

These numbers should be good enough to win a game vs. the Detroit Lions.

Game Plan:

The gameplan was flawed from the start. The RPO was open and not utlized enough. The screen game is still non-existance and Barkley is absent as a passing threat. Sure Won’Dale Robinson and Darius Slayton shined with Jones slinging the ball ; however, these receivers can’t turn receptions into touchdowns like great receivers do. This is no knock on Slayton, he is having a career year and is one of the main reasons the Giants have seven wins. However, the man needs some help.

Wan’Dale Robinson

Robinson is a good possession receiver available for gadget plays and under neath routes. He does the dirty work like Shepard did before him. However, he does not command much attention from defensive backs and is easily taken down at his size. Sadly, the 2nd round pick in the 2022 draft tore his ACL Sunday as he broke out for 100 yards on 9 catches. The Giants should not be depending on a 5’8 170 pound slot receiver to win you the game. Hence the flawed game plan.

Barkley:

The Lions shut Barkley down in one of his worst performances of his career.

15 attemps | 22 yards | 2 rec | 13 yards

While Barkley was behind stuffed behind a battered Giants Offensive line…this is nothing new. However, the brilliant football minds of Daboll and Kafka seemed to give up on the superstar. He is the ONLY pure playmaker this offense has and yet…Daboll & Kafka fell asleep. Barkley should have been inserted into the passing game giving Jones options. Screen, pitch back, roll out…even let Barkley throw the ball. Thinking Jones was going to win the game with James, Hodgins, Golladay and Cager is foolish.

  • Lastly…the defense was even worse. The Lions gashed the Giants defense for 161 yards rushing and had no sacks the entire day.
  • The top three tacklers were ALL defensive backs (Love, Holmes & Robinson). Thibs, Crowder, Ximines, Fox combined for six tackles. Smith was blow downfield on most plays.
  • The special teams…just as bad. Kick-Off giving up two kick returns each of 31 yards | 62 yards.

Jones can’t do it alone.
