The 2025 NFL draft was Joe Schoen’s third draft as the GM for the New York Giants and although it’s too early to definitively say if this draft is his best, there is a strong contention by many analysts that this is the best hauls in recent years for the Giants, highlighting the team’s strategic approach, the talent acquired, and the potential impact of the selections.
Here’s a breakdown of why the 2025 draft is generating such buzz:
Positive Aspects
- Joe Schoen was masterful in round 1 as he kept his composure, didn’t reach for a quarterback (Shedeur Sanders) as some had expected and let the draft come to him at #3. The reward was arguably the best player in the draft in Edge Rusher Abdul Carter out of Penn State.
- Still in round 1, Schoen waited patiently until pick #25 and traded back into the 1st round to select quarterback Jaxson Dart. The compensation was pick #34, #99 in the 2025 draft and a 3rd round pick in 2026.
Value Picks
After the buzz, the Giants and Joe Schoen created on Day 1. Days two and three Schoen focused on value and once again let the draft come to him. His reward was valuable pieces that should play major roles as rookies.
- Darius Alexander (DT) #65/Cam Skattebo (RD) #105/Marcus Mbow (OG) #154/Thomas Fidone (TE) #219/Korie Black (CB) #246
Building for the Future:
The Giants are building a strong foundation for the future with the selections made in this draft. Joe Schoen has given the Giants organization a slew of talent from this draft to give them a chance to finally put a quality team on the field. It’s not going to be easy as their schedule for the upcoming season is ranked hardest in the NFL and growing pains are expected with 1st and 2nd year players.
However, despite the difficulty of the schedule, this Giants team will be fun to watch, and the fans will enjoy watching this team develop into a playoff caliber unit.
