Rd 7: Jordan Riley | Pos – DT | School – Oregon

The New York Giants GM Joe Schoen continued to add more beef along the defensive line with the selection of Jordon Riley out of Oregon. Riley started all 13 games at Oregon and finished with 21 total tackles with a half of a sack. Riley earned a 82.4 tackling grade from PFF and will complete for a roster spot in 2023 for the Giants.

UPSIDE:

Riley is a pure run stuffer at 6’5 and weighing 338 pounds. He is at his best over the center and handling the gaps on each side of the center. Riley has good technique along with the determination you want to see from an interior defensive lineman.

Camp Battle:

Riley will need to beat out players such as DJ Davidson, Vernon Butler and Ryder Anderson as it’s expected that the Giants will carry only five interior defensive linemen. With Dexter Lawrence, A’Shawn Robinson, Rakeem Nunez-Roches and Leonard Williams already penciled in; it’s going to be an uphill battle for him.

GM Joe Schoen will now look at the UDFA list of players once the final pick is made and he could find a few solid prospects to compete for a roster. Keep an eye out for my next article on grading the Giants 2023 draft picks.
