After what feels like an eternity, Ben McAdoo, and the Giants have finally announced their coaching staff for the 2016 season. The coordinators are basically the same, with the exception of the Offensive coordinator, due to McAdoo having been promoted to head coach. With McaAdoo’s previous position being vacant, the giants stay within the organization, and also promoted Mike Sullivan, making him the new offensive coordinator.
Sullivan has spent many seasons with the New York Giants, he previously served as the Giants’ wide receivers coach. Then in 2010, he was moved to Quarterbacks coach, his coaching was cited as a major reason for Eli Manning’s success in 2010, and 2011. Sullivan does have experience in being an Offensive coordinator, with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The other two coordinator spots will be filled with the same personnel as last season, that being Steve Spagnuolo on defense, and Tom Quinn, with special teams.
Frank Cignetti Jr. was formerly the Rams Offensive Coordinator, but as of today he is officially Eli Manning’s newest QB coach. Not enduring much success with the Rams, fans will have to wait and see what impact he will have on Eli’s performance.
The coaching staff as a whole will consist of 20 men, eight on offense, seven on defense, two on special teams, and three in strength & conditioning. Even though, 12 coaches were retained from the Coughlin regime, many now hold different positions.
One coach that will remain the same is, son of former Giants Offensive Coordinator Kevin Gilbride, Kevin M Gilbride. The younger of the 2 has been coaching the Giants tight End for a few seasons and will continue to do so.
One thing all these moves tells you, is that Coach McAdoo, expects to see more production on the offensive, and defensive lines. Giving both, Robert Nunn and Pat Flaherty, their walking papers. The trenches will now be overseen by Patrick Graham (Defensive Line) and Mike Solari (Offensive Line.)
With 8 new coaching highers, the team should look somewhat different in 2016. Will it be for the better, or worse? Fans will just have to wait 19 more Sunday’s to find out.
