It’s been well documented when the Giants selected wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson out of the University of Kentucky in the 2nd round of the 2022 NFL draft there was utter shock and disbelief by many Giants fans. Since that time, cooling heads have prevailed and many Giant fans and football experts who cover the Giants have become more comfortable with the idea of Robinson being a variable weapon along with last year’s 1st round pick Kadarius Toney (University of Florida) who was taken with the 20th overall pick that involved a 1st round trade with the Chicago Bears. Toney was limited in his rookie season, playing only in 10 games, but his signature game against the Dallas Cowboys and most notably Pro Bowler Trevon Diggs where Toney recorded 10 receptions for 189 yards has given the coaching staff hope that they have a weapon along with Robinson as they enter the 2022 season.
The main concerns for each receiver will be health issues for Toney and lack of size for Robinson who stands 5’8 (on his toes) and weighs 185. Can both of these players succeed with these limitations? Or are the Giants gambling with an empty deck. HC Brian Daboll and OC Mike Kafka must be extremely creative as both are projected more as slot receivers, so is it feasibly possible for both to be on the field at the same time to provide enough production to give the Giants that dual threat? Well according to OC Mike Kafka the possibilities are endless, and he believes there will be plenty of snaps for both of these players to share and be on the field together throughout the season.
If Kafka is correct and HC Brian Daboll can somehow gel Toney and Robinson collectively into a dual threat on game day, Daniel Jones and the Giants will have the makings of an exciting offense for the fans to enjoy this season. Make no mistake the Giants will utilize both receivers on the inside, on the outside and perhaps at times in the backfield to maximize their talents and to create mismatches during the game. Again, the main issue for me is that both stay healthy and to avoid any major injury/setbacks. With HC Brian Daboll history with Buffalo and OC Mike Kafka’s creativity in offensive game planning, the Giants will no longer be the laughingstock of the NFL, which was certainly the case over the last two seasons.
