This is part 8 in a series of 13 as we go to the other side of the line and highlight the defensive tackles in the upcoming draft. The Giants only have Dexter Lawrence returning in 2022, so perhaps they might invest in a defensive tackle with one of their 10 picks. I see options in this draft for the Giants if they choose to go this route. Here are my top 5 defensive tackles in the 2022 NFL draft.
- Jordan Davis (Georgia) 6’6/330: Davis can play in either the 3-4 or 4-3 defensive schemes as is a solid run defender. Davis is nearly impossible to block with just one offensive lineman and he can collapse the pocket and be quarterback and running backs nightmare.
- DeMarvin Leal (Texas A&M) 6’4/290: Leal plays inside and outside for the Aggies and could be best suited as an edge defender at the next level. Leal is extremely disruptive and has an endless motor and will remind Giant fans of a slightly larger version of Justin Tuck.
- Devonte Wyatt (Georgia) 6’3/307: Wyatt played alongside Jordan Davis to form arguably the best defensive tackle duo in college football at Georgia. Wyatt is a disruptive defender who can stuff the run and also rush the passer with his quickness off the snap.
- Logan Hall (Houston) 6’6/278: Hall possesses the elite combination of strength, height, long arms and speed to become a top defensive lineman in the NFL. Hall played both inside and on the outside and has an immense upside, and it wouldn’t surprise me if goes earlier than expected as he could develop into a top tier defensive lineman before the end of the rookie deal.
- Perrion Winfrey (Oklahoma) 6’4/305: Winfrey had a solid senior week that should help his draft stock. Winfrey is versatile to be utilized anyway along the defensive line and has the ability to get up field. Winfrey has a high ceiling and just needs a little refining.
This is a solid group of prospects and their often overshadowed by the other positions in this draft, but we should see quality defensive lineman hearing their names called early and often into Day 3. The Giants could certainly be one of the many teams that could invest in a defensive lineman, but I expect that to happen on Day 3.
