Rd 3: Jalin Hyatt | Pos – Wide Receiver | School – Tennessee

New York Giants GM Joe Schoen for the second straight day has traded up on Day 2 in round 3. Schoen traded with the Los Angelos Rams and packaged picks #89 & #128 to move up to #73 to select wide receiver Jalin Hyatt out of Tennessee.

Stats:

Hyatt was a highlight reel last season with 67 receptions for 1,267 yards (18.9 average) and 15 TDs. Hyatt’s production was against the elite teams in the best conference in college football (SEC), especially against Alabama when he recorded five touchdowns. In total, Hyatt had 7 of his 15 touchdowns against Alabama and LSU. He ranked as the top wide receiver in the country against top teams.

Hyatt is a pure vertical threat with his elite speed and good hands that the Giants lacked in 2022. Currently with the additions of Parris Campbell, Jeff Smith, the Giants now have the speed to open up the playbook.

Awards:

Hyatt won the 2022 Biletnikoff Award winner as the top pass catcher in college football. Hyatt will not be expected to be labeled as the teams #1 wide receiver as he will need to smooth out a few rough edges in his game; which includes a limited route tree and route running skill set.

GM Joe Schoen and the Giants will be patient with Hyatt’s development and will slowly work him into the offensive scheme. Schoen has one more day left in the draft with four picks remaining in rounds five, six and seven.
