2020 Draft: Rd. 7 – LB TJ Brunson

By Jeff Pilgrim @JeffPilgrim11

The Giants used their 8th pick to grab TJ Brunson, Inside Linebacker from South Carolina (238 Overall).

Brunson was the third of 3 consecutive Linebackers taken by the Giants. (Brown, Coughlin, Brunson).

So Why him?

The Giants didn’t draft TJ Brunson as a finished product.  They drafted him in order to coach him.

Brunson is small for a linebacker.  6’1, 229 lbs.  His game will need major improvement.  But it seems like the Giants see something in him.  He’s a two-time team captain at South Carolina.  His teammates voted him for the defensive Leadership Award.  He’s a proven leader.  He was the quarterback of that defense and didn’t miss a game his Junior or Senior year.

This is a low risk, high upside addition to the Giants.

When Uconn Coach, Will Muschamp, was hired, TJ Brunon was the first prospect he visited.  There’s something about him.

The Giants brand new coaching staff will have to get the most from TJ Brunson to be an effective linebacker at the next level.  At the least, he could be a good help to Special Teams.

If you look at his highlights, he’s a great tackler.  He plays extremely hard and with great energy.  He loves the game of football and it shows in his play. He’s a smaller dog with a big bite. A young, talented, hungry player with an attitude, that’s what we’ve got in TJ Brunson.

Welcome to Big Blue.
