NY Giants Film Session: Good Eli and Bad Eli

by Tom Peticca (@peticca95)

The ‘easy’ part of the Giant’s schedule is over and I don’t think anybody was complaining about Big Blue being 8-3. Games against the Bears and Browns were too close for comfort, especially because those are two of the worst teams in football. One player who needs to step it up in the home stretch of the season is the Giants first round pick, Eli Apple. The focus of this week’s film session.

Apple has hardly played like the top 10 pick that he was all season. Often this season his name gets called only for missing tackles or getting burned on deep routes. Apple has yet to secure an interception this season. He had his best shot at a pick Sunday but couldn’t get his heel in bounds. Also on Sunday he got burned by Terrelle Pryor for a 50+ yard pass and was called for a big pass interference that gave the Browns 35 yards. Not the production you want to be getting from the 10th overall pick in the draft. Luckily for Apple, Jackrabbit Jenkins and DRC continue to play at a high level.

With 5 very important games left in the season lets hope Apple can start to play like a top 10 pick, or if he will go down as yet another bad Jerry Reese pick.

Going into Pittsburgh riding a 6 game winning streak is huge. The Giants have put themselves in a good position to make the playoffs, having the 2nd best record in the NFC. The way I see it is if the Giants finish the season 3-2 there is no doubt in my mind that they get a playoff spot and Giants fans know, once you get in anything can happen.

Post Steelers:

In a late addition of the Film Session, we can rest the Eli Apple had a very good game.  We can not say that for the other Eli.  After a poor showing vs. the Steelers…the Film Session has a few people that we can break down; however, one Eli Manning is mostly likely the focus of the analysis after the terrible showing against Pittsburgh.
