Evan Engram is in the final season of his rookie contract as Giant fans and the Giants coaching staff have seen enough to realize that it’s time to trade him. A quick glance at Engram’s career stat line reveals a telling tale: Two of his four seasons, Engram has had a total of 22 drops (11 in 2017 & in 2020), Engram has proven to be fragile, and no stranger to the disable list as he is currently out with a calf injury. Add to this that Engram is a horrendous blocker at a position that requires you to block and is also a horrible route runner. The Giants have been waiting and waiting for Engram to become the player that many envisioned he should be mostly due to his straight-line speed. I believe that ship has sailed away and it’s time for the Giants to trade him.
Who wants him:
Well, that’s a great question and the only justifiable answer is that one man’s garbage is another man’s gold. Simply put; there will be some teams out there that believe they can unlock the hidden talent of Engram and make him a legit Pro Bowler. The Giants GM Dave Gettleman needs to find these teams and get whatever they can from Engram; whether it’s a player to fill a much-needed position or draft pick/picks.
It’s not going to be easy by any means as Engram stock is not at its highest despite being named to the Pro Bowl in 2020. The Giants need to allow Engram to return from his injury and hope he can stay healthy and produce enough to convince a team to take a chance on him. This is a better option than holding onto to him, and in all likelihood not get anything back in compensation if they let him test free agency; which is what they will likely do.
