With the 147th pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, the NY Giants select, Defensive Tackle from Arizona State, DJ Davidson.  The 6’3 327-pound nose tackle was a second-team All-PAC 12 his senior year with 57 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, and four pass breakups.

What the NY Giants are getting:

Davidson is an early down-nose tackle who plays bigger than what his frame is.  He is very strong at the point of attack and if he can work on his hands while there, he can be taught to shed blocks faster. Davidson will not help the Giants with the pass rush, but he can be a big body in the middle of the line to disrupt the run game. A smart player who uses good lateral movement to maintain gap integrity and challenge reach blocks.

Long Term Expectations

Davidson was another prospect slated to be picked up in the 7th round and Giants reached for him. Davidson will certainly be in the mix for a backup role if he can control his weight.  He can contribute on special teams and be a fill-in on early downs to spell Dexter Lawrence or Leonard Williams late in games. Being a one-dimensional player, you will not expect too much other than that.

Yet, another reach by the Giants with this pick.
